Developing Listening as a Skill:
In all levels of Spanish, students listening skills are informally assessed on a daily basis in one way or another. Whether it is through the response to directives, or through responding to questions and statements, students are flooded with listening input regularly.
Students in Spanish G9 & G10 were formally assessed in similar ways, as our curriculum provides pre-created quizzes and tests that aligns with their vocabulary. Typically, the quizzes and tests have a series of pictures, and they listen to me, as I identify in Spanish what they are looking at. Students will have a list of questions and will need to match what they hear with one of the pictures they see.
Students in Spanish G11 / G12 primarily were formally assessed through listening to native speakers, as we watch movies or destinos on a weekly basis. Students would have to fill in a worksheet that forced them to be active listeners and to develop the skill of listening to a native speakers. Dos Mundos, Dime Uno and Destinos are instructional series videos in Spanish for secondary and post secondary education.
